The 1.2 beta has a feature for "additional resources" but it's not clear how these make any sense.

If, for example, I want to book a room, I have the room as a "regular" resource and that is what shows up displayed in My Reservations and on the calendars.

But if I need to at the same time book a piece of equipment, which has been marked as an additional resource, I can add it from within the booking the regular resource window, but it doesn't get displayed anywhere.

That makes no sense at all.  Sad

(I'm not exactly sure where it could be displayed. One possibility is to make an assumption that additional resources are tied hiearchically to specific "regular" resources. However, it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. That is, an "additional resource" could be associated with multiple "regular" resources if there is more than one "additional resource" available.

Regardless, "additional resources" have to be displayed everywhere for them to be useful. idea:

Another related feature would be the ability to book multiple regular resources simultaneously since they may not be mutually exclusive.

The additional resources show up on the reservation details window under the "Resources" tab.

The ability to book multiple main resources is in development and will be included in a future release.

That's what I said above  Cool

I'm saying there's no way to scan a schedule quickly to note what equipment has been reserved. The only way around this is not use "additional resources" and make them "regular resources" and then the user has to make two reservations (or more) depending on how much equipment is being reserved.

Actually, this could be easy to fix by being able to assign an icon to an "additional resource". For example, if I need to use a flash camera, I could assign the  icon to it.

Then the  would be displayed in the space of the "regular resource" whereever it gets displayed.

There would a separate icon for each piece of equipment being reserved.

I can see the value if you only have a couple additional resources per reservation.  This gets to be an issue when people are reserving a bunch of additional resources.  I'll see if I can get some GUI stuff worked out.

Hmm, another idea is to use abbreviations in tiny print in lieu of icons

So I might have
Quote

Maurice's reservation(FC, BT)

(FC = flash camera, BT = big tripod)

Finally, the reservation space--in grid view--could be made wider vertically all across its width when there are "additional resources". "additional resources" would then go into this space, a  "second" line if you will.

Maurice's reservation
(FC, BT)

I'd also consider an option to widen the display horizontally to accommodate the text of the reservation in grid view. The display would be wider horizontally all along its height for whenver there was any reservation in that time slot, wide enough to acommodate the text.
I wonder if text can be presented in a condensed format.

My goal is to be able to scan the schedule quickly and see every resource in use at once.

Here's a mockup of what interface could look like if it were to accomodate both the name owning the reservation regardless of how short a time a resource has been booked and what additional resources are being booked.

First, the additional resources appear adjacent to the name.

Second, the name owning the reservation may be longer than the time. In the example above, A Long Name has only booked 8:30-9 AM, but the full name and additional resources extend almost to 10 AM. Joe Blow has reserved the same resource starting at 9 AM. The trick to display this is to put each additional booking on the subsequent "line" so to speak. The name has a colored background to contrast it against the grid line, and the color is different to distinguish it from the reservation itself.

If there were a lot of bookings for a particular resource, it would make for a long height to the resource rectangle, but every browser has a vertical scroll bar.

The main screen, which displays My Reservations, should also have a new column added for additional resources listed in abbreviated format as well as the calendar views.

Hello,
you wrote the additional resources show up on the reservation details window under the "Resources" tab. This is right. But is there a way to use the additional resources in notify email or in the Mouse over window of a reservation.

This would require some code changes, but isn't too difficult.  This will be supported in 2.0, whenever that makes it out.

In manage schedules you can define an admin email for a schedule. As far as i understand these admins only receive a notification about a reservation. Users with that email cannot really administrate the schedule. (Except they have admin privileges)

Is this correct?
