SMF Auth Integration?

Does there exist an SMF authentication integration? As the author is using SMF himself for this forum, maybe this was already done?

Also I would like to read something about integration of possible authentication backends, is there any documentation available, I could not find anything, THANKS!

In 2.0 many components, including authentication, are pluggable. There is documentation included with the source and LDAP authentication has been written as a plugin to serve as an example.
