Default Schedule

Is it mandatory to have a default schedule to appear first. I have people asking me why it has to default to a particular schedule. I was wondering if anyone has a workaround, perhaps include a "Select a schedule" as the first option of the drop-down list?

Well I decided the best and least invasive way of doing this was to create a schedule called "Select a schedule" with no resources and make it the default schedule.
